Hints to Build Better Readers

Utilize your resources:

  • The World Book Encyclolpedia can be found online.  Find Games, Quizzes, maps and more at www.worldbook.com.  This site offers a "Student Resources Center" and "Monthly Feature Section" that may give your child ideas on how to complete research or just look up things that may be of interest to them.

Read around your home:

  • Newspapers and magazines are great ways to get children interested in current events.
  • Younger children may find comics interesting.
  • Make every minute count, read cereal boxes and food packaging.
  • Read Recipes, Menus, Road Signs everything counts.

REMEMBER:
Make time to read with your child everyday.  Don't force them to read.  Look for articles and magazines that interest them.  Before you know it, they may just be bringing the reading to you!
