After School Programs

After School Activities

Academic Attention












We will be providing after school assistance to students who need extra time with a specific content area teacher to prevent students from falling behind by providing extra time and support. Students will be recommended to participate in this program on a weekly basis by each content team and/or by parent referral. Once students are identified, they will receive a notice that is to be signed by a parent and returned to school. The following schedule has been developed to offer maximum coverage on a consistent weekly basis:

Tuesday

Language Arts

Thursday Science and Social Studies

*At 3:00 pm students must be picked up, have permission to walk home, or go to a study hall until 4:00 pm to wait for the activity bus.

Athletics

 

Oxford Hills Middle School participates in league competition in football, field hockey, boys’ and girls’ basketball, softball, wrestling, track and field, baseball, and cheerleading. Further information regarding student participation in athletics can be obtained through communication with the athletic director or individual coaches. Students who stay after school to watch a game must be supervised by a teacher. Students may not stay to watch practices.

Art Club

Oxford Hills Middle School has an active Art Club. Students meet once per week to work on individual projects and group projects such as seasonal decoration of the school.

Builders Club

Builders Club is a service club that builds leadership, teamwork and friendship while doing volunteer work in our school, community and world.  It is sponsored by Norway/Paris Kiwanis.  Please visit our web site.

Computer Club

Computer Club meets weekly and is open to any students. Members build, fix and examine computers as well as working on video projects. Students learn how to buy and build and a complete system. Programming language is explored as well as game design through out the year.

Destination Imagination

Destination Imagination is an innovative creative problem solving program. Teams of two to seven are challenged to solve one of five unique challenges. Each challenge offers students the opportunity to explore art, literature, drama, engineering, architecture and improvisation. This activity is supervised by parent volunteers in the school after school hours. Meetings usually start late October with regional celebration by early March.

Gifted and Talented

S.A.D. #17 has a Gifted and Talented Coordinator. Students are tested to identify gifted and talented needs. Parents who wish to investigate gifted and talented services may contact Mary McKinnon at Paris Elementary School 739-2535.

Interact Club


The Interact Club is a service organization sponsored by the local Oxford Hills Rotary Club. The club raises money for school projects.The members will also have the opportunity to attend a Rotary meeting, assist the Dollars for Scholars Committee, march in the Thanksgiving Parade, and participate in the May Day Play Day Community Activity.

Intermural Sports


In order to develop social education, students at Oxford Hills Middle School are encouraged to get involved in the intramural sports program. The philosophy behind intramural sports is to offer students the opportunity to play a sport in an organized fashion. A student's ability is not stressed. Instead, a healthy participation through sportsmanship and fun are the keys to the intramural program. Students may elect to participate in a wide variety of intramural sports at Oxford Hills Middle School. Football, field hockey, boys’ and girls’ basketball, wrestling, cross-country skiing, soccer, softball, golf, and tennis are offered.

Math Team


Grades 7 and 8. This is an interscholastic academic competition. Two Middle school teachers coach teams. The team practices are usually once per week from October through April. There are regular meets scheduled during the school year. Students may ask any math teacher about this activity for more information.

School House Stitchers

This is a group that meets once a week to work on basic quilting and sewing skills. Members create a variety of sewing projects of their own choice and design. It is open to any students throughout the year. Members also learn how to use a sewing machine while creating their projects.

Student Council



The Student Council of Oxford Hills Middle School is an important element of the school community. Homeroom representatives are elected at the start of the school year to work with the student council officers who were elected the previous spring.The student council members act as an advisory board with the administration and faculty to strengthen the school community.Council members have many responsibilities ranging from the daily announcements to the planning of assemblies and other activities.For future reference to student council activities, see the monthly calendar of events that is distributed each month. Yearbook

Students record through pictures and writing the activities of the school year. The yearbook is published at the end of the school year.
